    Polycarbonate PC combines high transparency with very high impact resistance, which is why it is used in roofing, rooflights, machine guards and visors. In practice, service life also depends on UV protection, scratching, chemical contact and correct pellet drying. PC is hygroscopic, and excess moisture during processing can cause hydrolysis and a reduction in molecular weight. The article also explains why polycarbonate can be transparent and what BPA-PC means.
